Ravensburger Museum of Games and Publishing, Historical Heritage. Construction management for ‚SPACE4‘, Germany
Comprehensive renovation project of a historical heritage site
The protected buildings at Marktstraße 24/26 are among the oldest constructions in the city of Ravensburg. Parts of their structure date back to the early 14th century.
In particular, the building at Marktstraße 26 presents a complex constructional evolution that is reflected in numerous renovations that have been preserved to this day. The restoration was carried out strictly respecting the principles of heritage conservation, while simultaneously meeting the requirements for modern use as a museum. Interventions in the historical structure were limited to the minimum and were only carried out at points where existing structures could no longer meet the stricter technical regulations.
As part of the conversion into a museum, the original proportions of the spaces were preserved, and a new structure was built with an open staircase and elevator to provide barrier-free accessibility to all floors of the museum.
This process was preceded by an exhaustive historical study of the building, which included a detailed analysis of historical plans, such as those from 1886, as well as various survey measures. This methodical approach ensured a solid foundation for the restoration and adaptation of the building while respecting its heritage value.
